In the third of our blog posts profiling a few of our grads, Kamini Pancha talks about why testing is the job for her and Assurity is the right company with an amazing culture...
After graduating from the University of Auckland with a BCom in Information Systems and Commercial Law, Kamini joined the January 2017 intake of Assurity’s Graduate Programme.
While at university, she was interested in a career which was technical, but not as a developer or programmer. Testing, however, did appeal because, as well as having all the technical elements, it also has an analytical side.
After completing the test-oriented Grad Programme, says Kamini, Assurity offers several different pathways for career development. “You start to get a feel for what else is out there and Assurity helps you navigate these to stay on track with your own career goals and plans” she said.
“What I love about testing is having a role in producing quality software for customers. Finding problem areas which may have been overlooked and helping clients find solutions for them is really important and it feels great knowing you can help them make improvements.
“My favourite thing about working for Assurity would definitely have to be the great people you meet and how friendly and supportive everyone is. Coming from the Graduate Programme, you become quite close with the others in your intake which starts you off with a great group of people and makes things way less daunting when you finish the initial training.”
Kamini’s advice to grads looking to apply to the Assurity Programme is three-fold. “First, ask people you know in the industry what to expect on a typical IT project and also as a tester – and make sure testing is something you’re passionate about. Before the Programme, don’t worry about your level of technical skills or knowledge of testing. The goal is to learn the basics… and learn from your mistakes.”
