Four Wellington Non-profit Organisations (NPO’s) are set to benefit from the skills of IT professionals in a fun-filled, Assurity-sponsored weekend hackathon on 6 December.
The event – starting on the evening of Friday 6 December and ending at 5.30pm on 8 December – has been designed to bring together IT professionals to help NPO’s with their IT systems.
From improving websites to optimising CRM capabilities or simplifying internal IT applications, your help can make a big difference to:
- Kiwi Community Assistance
- Philanthropy New Zealand
- Social Development Partners
- The Wellington Soup Kitchen
You will form a team with other volunteering techies and work with one of these NPO’s – the team that brings the most sustainable improvement being rewarded at the close of the event.
Assurity’s Alice Chu and Jonathan Scher, two of the four event’s organisers, helped secure Assurity’s support: “The idea began during a casual conversation where we talked about how we wanted to make a difference and use our skills to give back to the community,” says Alice. “One of us is an avid volunteer in the community, another wanted to grow people’s skills and another believed that NPO’s should also benefit from the same professional IT services large organisations have access to.
“We came up with the idea of organising a weekend event which gave IT volunteers – just like you – the chance to use their skills to improve the businesses of charitable organisations, thus making our community a better place.
“This is where you come in. All you have to do is donate a weekend of your time to help them in their IT needs. Assurity will provide some energy (in the form of food and drink) and the perfect venue (their Wellington office)”.
The event kicks off on the evening of 6 December when each organisation will present their cause and IT issues. Volunteers will then choose their organisation and the collaboration will begin!
